The food chains always starts with the sun, the sun is where the energy originally comes from.
The producer is an organism that produces its own food from sunlight.
The consumer is the organism that eats the producer (usually a herbivore).
The decomposer (scavengers) break down or dead or decaying organisms.
The arrows on the food chain are important because they indicate where the energy is passed. Arrows mean "to be eaten". For example: Grass --> Rabbit, so grass is "to be eaten" by the rabbit, the the energy of the grass will be passed on to the rabbit.
